Annappa, a Document Controller in Morgenall, Bangalore

LRCs gave the much needed boost to my career and confidence!” says Annappa
Date: 06/10/2016
32-year-old Annappa is a person with orthopedic impairments. He is from Hospet taluk of Bellary district in Karnataka state.

Annappa shares, “Both my legs are affected due to polio. But I can walk independently with the help of calipers. My disability has not prevented me from achieving in life. I did my schooling from Mylaralingeshwara High School, Davangere.  I completed my BA in 2006 from B H Pre-University at Bada, Davangere.  Then I went on to pursue my post graduation in computer science from Shree Maata Degree College, at Hospet.”

“I live with my elder brother and his family. I lost both my parents in childhood.  Despite having a post-graduate degree in computer science I was unable to get a job of my choice in the Information Technology industry. They were reluctant to employ me because of my disability. Employers felt I would be unable to do the job efficiently,” says Annappa with sadness.

Then with a smile he continues, “I did a 45-day Employability Training course from EnAble India, Bangalore. The Livelihood Resource Centre (LRC) at Cheshire Homes India, Bangalore (CHIBU), supported me in analyzing my skills. Just before attending the Job Fair I attended their Foundation Training which covered several subjects in life skills, mock interview sessions, grooming, and resume writing sessions. When LRC conducted a Job Fair, I was ready to attend an interview at Concentrix Daksh Service India Private Ltd.  They recognized my talent instantly and inducted me into their company as a practitioner on a salary of Rs.13000/- a month. I worked with them for over a year.”

Annappa adds, “One day I contacted the LRC team requesting them to give me a better job opportunity. At that time, to my luck, LRC was organizing a special recruitment drive for Morgenall Management Consultants Private Limited. They are an international human resource consulting company, based in Dubai, UAE, with centres in Bangalore, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Morocco. I successfully cleared their Aptitude test and personal interview.  Eventually I got selected at Morgenall on a salary of Rs.16000/- per month. Today I am working as a Document Controller.”

Happily Annappa says, “Thanks to the timely Foundation Training and the job assistance provided by CHIBU – LRC, Bangalore. LRC trainings not only gave me confidence, they have contributed enormously to my success today!”

LRCs form an important part of the ‘Access to Livelihood’ program, run by Leonard Cheshire Disability – an international organization working for the people with disabilities.
