Baskar S is a successful goldsmith today because of the trainings he has received at Livelihood Resource Centre (LRC), Cheshire Homes, Coimbatore. He narrates his success story as below:

“I am Baskar. I am 31 years old. I am a gold smith. I have completed Standard 5. My family consists of my wife and mother. We live on Nadar Street in Coimbatore city of Tamilnadu. I have Locomotor Disability. My wife helps me in my work. My wife too is disabled. Earlier my financial status was not good. My earnings were not enough to support my family and look after my mother’s medical treatment. A friend of mine introduced me to Cheshire Homes, Coimbatore (CHC). He helped me to register my name with their Livelihood Resource Centre (LRC).

The staff at CHC is very kind and helpful. They suggested that I undertake trainings that would help to improve my skills and business understanding. I underwent their Foundation Training which brought my best qualities and changed my attitude. The Entrepreneur development Program enhanced my communication, problem solving, and money management techniques. Life skills sharpened my analyzing skills. The trainings made me more disciplined and confident to face the uncertainties in business.

LRC also provided me with financial support and kits to develop my business process. I was able to buy modern and more accurate weighing machines which are so important in the gold business work. Today I run a successful business. I earn Rs.300 per day. This helps me to look after my family comfortably. LRC staff has also requested me to register my wife’s name so that she can give me better support in my business. Thank you CHC-LRC!”

LRCs today are helping people with disabilities to lead a better life and earn a better income. LRCs have been set up in the main cities of India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Philippines and in South Africa. LRCs are the mainstay of the ‘Access to Livelihood’ program started by Leonard Cheshire Disability, a world renowned organization

Leonard Cheshire Disability is supported by Accenture Foundation in its path-breaking work. Today people with disabilities can look forward to earning a livelihood with dignity in mainstream society.
