Afzaal, a Samarth Soochnapreneur in Barabanki, Uttarpradesh
I am very happy that I am able to support my family and I am able to earn, says Afrzaal
Afzaal 22-year-old, from Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh has locomotor disability. He comes from a middle-class family; his family consists of 8 members. The household is supported by his elder brother who works in Delhi as an electrician. Afzaal always wanted to take off some burden from his brother’s shoulders, Last year in 2020, he got to know about Digital Empowerment Foundation and its work from a friend, he joined the DEF Team and enrolled himself as a Samarth Soochnapreneur. He said after getting training, he is managing a centre and he got a mobile and a printer from DEF and now he is able to earn around Rs. 9000/- in a month. During the second wave of COVID, he distributed masks and spread awareness among the people of his locality.
He added he is working as an influencer in Virtual Livelihoods Resource Centre (VLRC) Project of Leonard Cheshire implemented by DEF and working for the welfare of person with disabilities gives him immense pleasure. He said he always wanted to do this kind of work which not only gives satisfaction but also helps in earning money for the family. In his words he says “Main bohot khush hun ki main apne parivar ko sambhal pa raha hun or mai 8-9 hazar kma rha hun”. (I am very happy that I am able to support my family and I am able to earn Rs. 8000-9000)” Afzaal is now looking forward to continue his job and also wants to continue his studies.
